How can I control my negative thoughts?

  • Try not to “wallow in self pity”. Focus on humor, watch a comedy on TV or a movie
  • Make the room brighter
  • Get family or friend support over the phone, email
  • Stop negative thought pattern
  • Re-engage your thinking through exercise, physical activity,  yoga, pilates, meditation
  • Try to stop “ruminating”
  • Positive reframing – write down 5 Positive Thoughts
  • Emotional Freedom Techniques: Tapping on different parts of your face and body, acceptance
  • Journaling regularly
  • Light candles, scents, touch, etc.
  • Warm Bath
  • Herbal Tea
  • Try not to dwell on a negative memory
  • Pray on your own, in a congregation, or with someone over the phone
  • Guided meditation/relaxation, breathing
